Thunder Ranch Cow-Calf operations
Thunder Ranch runs a high quality cow-calf, beef cattle operation. During the late spring, summer and early fall nearly 1,000 head of cattle occupy two high elevation grazing leases on Blue and Diamond Mountains. Cattle have the opportunity to graze on 75,000 acres of BLM and private land leases. Superior grazing and proper herd management yield hundreds of premium calves each year. These calves are sought after by top feed lot operations throughout the West. The herd utilizes the high elevation pastures until early fall when the animals are returned to the Ranch.
Thunder Ranch cares for nearly 1,000 head of cattle. The cow-calf operation centers its activities at the Ranch during the winter months. Cows are fed corn stubble and ground hay. The calving season begins mid February and continues until late April. The temperature is rather cool in Utah at that time of the year.
In April, the cattle are vaccinated and branded before they are shipped to the Colorado Blue Mountain tract to graze over the summer months.
